8th November - St Elizabeth of the Trinity - Virgin
OCD: Memory, OC: Optional Memory
Elizabeth Catez of the Trinity was born in 1880 in the diocese of Bourges. In 1901 she entered the Discalced Carmelite monastery of Dijon. There she made her profession of vows in 1903 and from there she was called "to light, to love and to life" by the Divine Spouse in 1906. A faithful adorer in spirit and in truth, her life was a "praise of glory" of the Most Blessed Trinity present in her soul and loved amidst interior darkness and excruciating illness. In the mystery of divine inhabitation she found her "heaven on earth," her special charism and her mission for the church. For more about Bl Elizabeth
Let virgins praise the name of the Lord, for his name alone is supreme, its majesty outshines both earth and heaven.
O God of bountiful mercy,
you revealed to Blessed Elizabeth of the Trinity the mystery of your secret presence in the heart of those who love you and you chose her to adore you in spirit and in truth. Through her intercession may we also abide in the love of Christ, that we may merit to be transformed into temples of your life-giving Spirit to the praise of your glory. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit one God, for ever and ever.
A reading from the letter of St Paul to the Ephesians - 1:3-10. 13-14
The praise of his glory.
Blessed be God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
who has blessed us with all the spiritual blessings of heaven in Christ.
Before the world was made, he chose us, chose us in Christ,
to be holy and spotless, and to live through love in his presence,
determining that we should become his adopted sons through Jesus Christ
for his own kind purposes,
to make us praise the glory of his grace,
his free gift to us in the Beloved,
in whom, through his blood, we gain our freedom,
the forgiveness of our sins.
Such is the richness of the grace
which he has showered on us
in all wisdom and insight.
He has let us know the mystery of his purpose,
the hidden plan he so kindly made in Christ from the beginning
to act upon when the times had run their course to the end:
that he would bring everything together under Christ, as head,
everything in the heavens and everything on earth.
Now you too, in him,
have heard the message of the truth and the good news of your salvation,
and have believed it;
and you too have been stamped
with the seal of the Holy Spirit of the Promise,
the pledge of our inheritance
which brings freedom for those whom God has taken for his own,
to make his glory praised.
Responsorial Psalm - Ps. 62
R/. For you my soul is thirsting, O God, my God.
O God, you are my God, for you I long;
for you my soul is thirsting.
My body pines for you
like a dry, weary land without water. R/.
So I gaze on you in the sanctuary
to see your strength and your glory.
For your love is better than life,
my lips will speak your praise. R/.
So I will bless you all my life,
in your name I will lift up my hands.
My soul shall be filled as with a banquet,
my mouth shall praise you with joy. R/.
On my bed I remember you.
On you muse through the night
for you have been my help;
in the shadow of your wings I rejoice. R/.
Gospel Acclamation - 1 John 4-7
Everyone who loves
is begotten by God,
and knows God.
A reading from the holy Gospel according to John - 14:23-27
We shall make our home with him.
Jesus said to his disciples:
'If anyone loves me he will keep my word,
and my Father will love him,
and we shall come to him
and make our home with him.
Those who do not love me do not keep my words.
And my word is not my own:
it is the word of the one who sent me.
I have said these things to you
while still with you;
but the Advocate, the Holy Spirit,
whom the Father will send in my name,
will teach you everything
and remind you of all I have said to you'.
Prayer over the Gifts
we bring you gifts and prayers. We praise your glory on this feast of the virgin Elizabeth whose witness to Christ was pleasing to you. Be pleased also with the eucharist we now offer. Grant this through Christ our Lord.
Communion Antiphon - Jn 14:21,23
Whoever loves me will be loved by my Father. We shall come to him and make our home with him.
Prayer after Communion
may the mysteries we receive on this feast of the virgin Elizabeth keep us alert and ready to welcome your Son at his return, that he may welcome us to the feast of eternal life. Grant this through Christ our Lord.
Office of Readings
Second Reading - From the writings of Blessed Elizabeth of the Trinity, Virgin
The Indwelling Trinity
wholly adoring, and wholly surrendered to Your creative Action.
Come into me as Adorer, as Restorer, as Savior.
O my beloved Star, so fascinate me that I may not withdraw from Your radiance.
"cover her with Your shadow," seeing in her only the "Beloved in whom You are well pleased."
until I depart to contemplate in Your light the abyss of Your greatness.
R/. You are God's temple and the Spirit of God lives in you. *Glorify God in your body.
V/. To the praise of his glory. *Glory God in you body.
