Entrance Antiphon - Ex 34:12,23
As a shepherd visits his flock I will look after my sheep, says the Lord, and I will raise up a shepherd who will pasture them.
you willed that Blessed John Soreth
should renew religious life
and establish communities for women
in the Order of Carmel.
May his prayers and merits
help us to be ever more faithful
in following Christ and his Mother.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
A Reading from the Prophet Ezekiel - 34:12-16, 23a
I mean to raise up one shepherd who will pasture my sheep.
The Lord says this: As a shepherd keeps all his flock in view when he stands up in the middle of his scattered sheep, so shall I keep my sheep in view. I shall rescue them from wherever they have been scattered during the mist and darkness. I shall bring them out of the countries where they are; I shall gather them together from foreign countries and bring them back to their own land.
I shall pasture them on the mountains of Israel, in the ravines and in every inhabited place in the land. I shall feed them in good pasturage; the high mountains of Israel will be their grazing ground. There they will rest in good grazing ground; they will browse in rich pastures on the mountains of Israel.
I myself will pasture my sheep, I myself will show them where to rest--it is the Lord who speaks. I shall look for the lost one, bring back the stray, bandage the wounded and make the weak strong. I shall watch over the fat and healthy. I shall be a true shepherd to them.
I mean to raise up one shepherd, and to put him in charge of them and he will pasture them.
Responsorial Psalm - Ps 22:1-3, 4, 5, 6 (R. 1)
R/. The Lord is my shepherd, there is nothing I shall want.
The Lord is my shepherd;
there is nothing I shall want.
Fresh and green are the pastures
where he gives me repose. R/.
Near restful waters he leads me,
to revive my drooping spirit.
He guides me along the right path;
he is true to his name. R/.
If I should walk in the valley of darkness
no evil would I fear.
You are there with your crook and your staff;
with these you give me comfort. R/.
You have prepared a banquet for me
in the sight of my foes.
My head you have anointed with oil;
my cup is overflowing. R/.
Surely goodness and kindness shall follow me
all the days of my life.
In the Lord's own house shall I dwell
for ever and ever. R/.
Gospel Acclamation - Jn 8:12b
I am the light of the world, says the Lord;
whoever follows me will have the light of life.
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke - 9:57-62
I will follow you wherever you go.
As Jesus and his disciples travelled along they met a man on the road who said to him, 'I will follow you wherever you go'. Jesus answered, 'Foxes have holes and the birds of the air nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head'.
Another to whom he said, 'Follow me,' replied, 'Let me go and bury my father first'. But he answered, 'Leave the dead to bury their dead; your duty is to go and spread the news of the kingdom of God'.
Another said, 'I will follow you, sir, but first let me go say good-bye to my people at home' Jesus said to him, 'Once the hand is laid on the plough, no one who looks back is fit for the kingdom of God'.
